A three-stage journey to the heart of what makes us human, and a glimpse of just how much potential is lying dormant inside you. And keep this in mind: what you’re about to read is only the tip of the iceberg!

Since 2020, we’ve all been running on fumes. Many of us thought the worst would be over once the pandemic ended. We didn’t see what was coming next: the worst economic, social, and societal crisis to grow out of that unfortunate chapter in our history. It’s like running a marathon with zero training. You finally cross the finish line, and someone tells you it’s actually the starting line of an Ironman. You’re exhausted. Your legs are gone. And now you have to keep fighting? How are you supposed to pull that off?

That’s where awakening your potential comes in. How can you and your teams do as much, or more, and do it better, without more money, more time, or more people? The answer is simple. There’s only one. Tap into your dormant potential, because right now you’re running at 5% of what you’re truly capable of. To prove it, we’ve put together three examples that will leave your jaw on the floor. By the end, you’ll want just one thing: to unlock your full potential, starting now.

Growing as a leader: 3 key stages to reveal your full potential

A lifelong path

As we’ve explained before, awakening your potential belongs to the realm of inner development. Personal development comes before it. Spiritual development comes after. When you embrace all three, you fully step into the leader and the human being you are, wherever you are on your path. It’s the adventure of a lifetime, one that helps you grow into the fullest version of yourself. And it all starts with a major shift in mindset. Stop looking outside yourself for answers. Everything you’re searching for is already inside you. At the entrance to the Oracle of Delphi, visitors could read: “Know thyself, and you will know the universe and the gods.” Once you discover what comes next, you’ll want nothing more than to know yourself.

What if…?

You won’t believe this…

That’s on purpose. We picked three topics that will grab you. They’ll push back on how you see the world and what you think is possible. Before we go any further, let’s make a deal.

  • One: don’t believe a word we’re about to tell you.
  • Two: don’t lock yourself inside your own beliefs either. You’re going to be challenged. You’ll be tempted to think we’re making this up. That’s why the third part of the deal matters so much.
  • Three: just ask yourself, “What if it’s true?”

That question leaves the door open to doubt and to surprise. Then you only have one thing left to do. Pull on the thread. Find a way to test it for yourself, and prove us right or wrong. No spoilers, but here’s our promise: if you take this path, you’ll end up agreeing that everything, absolutely everything, we’ve told you is true…

Ready? Let’s go!

I. I’ve got a good feeling… I’ve got a bad feeling…

Subtle communication, or another way to define charisma

It all starts with the discovery of “biofields” in the 1960s and ’70s. The researchers were Gerhard Baule and Richard McFee of Syracuse University, and David Cohen of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). They proved that the body and its organs have their own magnetic fields. Those fields change in size and strength depending on your state: your health, how tired you are, and so on. The HeartMath Institute, founded in 1991, took this research further. It focused specifically on the electromagnetic field of the heart.

Hang on tight. Yes, you read that right. If I’d said this without the backing of a respected research center, you would have filed me with the woo-woo crowd in a heartbeat. And yet, science has spoken…

By the way, if you’ve ever heard of “heart coherence,” you’ll be glad to know this stress-management technique (among other uses) came straight out of the HeartMath Institute’s work.

Here’s what the scientists are saying. We have a magnetic field that extends beyond our physical body. That field has been mapped (see illustration). And information travels through it, picked up by the people around us, consciously or not…

What if it’s true…?

The chart above was published by the institute. It states: “Our thoughts and emotions affect the heart’s magnetic field, which energetically affects those around us, whether we are aware of it or not.”

Now think about what this means for your leadership. Billions of pieces of information about a group, a person, or a project, available to anyone who can read them. Wouldn’t that be like having an ace up your sleeve?

Have you ever walked into a room and “felt” good or bad about it within a second? And later found out your first impression was right? Here’s more. Have you ever known someone whose mere presence inspires you, or drives you up the wall? Are you an emotional “sponge”? Do you feel like you carry everything other people are carrying? Have you ever sensed you should go one way instead of another, against all logical analysis, and later realized your gut was right? Have you had so many of these moments that you now take your intuition seriously? Have you ever wondered why some people seem to “light up” a room or inspire others just by being there? And what about public speaking! Have you ever watched someone on stage who seems to carry the whole audience along with them?

If you answered yes, you’re probably a subtle-communication ninja without knowing it. All of these stories point to the same thing. We have a vital field that extends beyond our physical body. It carries the information we put into it. And it speaks on our behalf. We don’t have to do or say anything. We don’t even need eye contact or a conversation with the people involved!

Once that sinks in, let’s keep going. Let’s picture what it means together. Fair warning: it might make your head spin… This discovery shows you that charisma is simply inspiring information moving from one vital field to another. It’s a quality of presence that other people can feel. And it’s something you can develop.

You also learn that a speaker electrifies a crowd when they connect with the audience on an energetic level. That’s a skill you can develop, too.

Along the same lines, a person’s vital field reveals far more about them and their intentions than anything they say out loud. Sometimes they couldn’t put it into words if they tried, because they’re not aware of the information they’re sending out. But it’s there, within your reach, if you know how to tune in. Imagine how transparent your relationships with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders could become. No more room for pretending. Finally, real relationships! That, too, is something you can develop.

But here’s the best part. Did you know you can build this skill in just a few weeks, with no prior experience at all?

Want the secret? It’s all about what you feel. Sharpen your senses, listen closely, and… what if it’s true?

II. A little voice told me…

Many voices, many paths, many kinds of intelligence

We’ve all had at least one idea in our lives. We’ve all had roughly a thousand thoughts in the last twenty minutes. So there’s no need to prove that we all have “voices” talking deep inside us. And no, that doesn’t mean anyone needs to lock us up in a padded cell.

Yet no one ever invited us to get to know those voices. Most of the time, we just put up with them. The proof? The crushing weight of an overactive mind. Endless rumination. The inner saboteur and the inner critic, to name only the most annoying ones. But once you accept that voices from different sources live inside you, without thinking you’ve lost your mind, a whole world of possibilities opens up.

So a new adventure begins, with the same question as always: “What if it’s true?”

It starts with a simple mental exercise: learning to observe your thoughts. You’ll see how they move through your head, where they come from, and where they go. This alone will help you understand that persistent, often overwhelming voice chattering away in your head. Nine times out of ten, it has nothing useful to say. I call it the Little Monkey.

Once you’ve tamed that voice, you’ll find a new space of mental calm. From there, you can discover that another voice speaks inside you, too. It belongs to the observer, the one watching your thoughts. It’s quieter. Less intrusive. You could even call it wiser and more discreet. Listen to it. Get to know it. It always tells the truth.

If you dig even deeper, you’ll notice it doesn’t come from the same place… That discovery alone will open up yet another world of possibilities to explore!

But let’s get a little crazy and push further still.

Did you know that ideas are also a “voice”? You can go find them in a very particular place, by following a specific process. Did you know that creativity and innovation draw on a very particular channel of inspiration, one you can “plug into” anytime?

And since we’re not done sharing things that sound completely out there, let’s go all in! To do that, let’s hear from the composer Johannes Brahms (1833–1897) on how he wrote his music:

“In this exalted state, I see clearly what is obscure in my ordinary moods. Then I feel capable of drawing inspiration from above, as Beethoven did… Those vibrations take the form of distinct mental images… Straightaway the ideas flow in upon me… And not only do I see distinct themes in the mind’s eye, but they are clothed in the right forms, harmonies, and orchestration. Measure by measure, the finished product is revealed to me when I am in those rare, inspired moods… I have to be in a semi-trance condition to get such results. That is a condition when the conscious mind is in temporary abeyance and the subconscious is in control, for it is through the subconscious mind, which is a part of Omnipotence, that the inspiration comes.”

Okay, nice guy, that German composer. But… what was he smoking?

Or you could ask yourself: “What if…?”

Open that door, and you step right into the world of altered states of consciousness. Neuroscience has a lot to say about their benefits. With a bit of mental training, you can discover what alpha, gamma, delta, and theta brainwaves can do, and the potential they hold. That’s another whole world opening up to you! But let’s stay focused…

Some of these states have different levels of depth. Your inner voice draws endless inspiration from them. Imagine nailing the very core of your strategies, speeches, and creative work in a matter of minutes… Now add subtle communication to the mix. The possibilities multiply tenfold.

“What if it’s true?” Would you really want to miss out on that?

III. Reprogram yourself for success!

You’re only steering 5% of your life…

Neuroscience is clear: 95% of what we do is driven by our subconscious. The rest of the time, we’re the captain of the ship. Just 5% of the time… That gives you pause. Especially if you’re someone who likes to control everything!

Your subconscious stores programs that run in the background, on autopilot. Once they’re installed, they operate without your say-so. The trouble starts when you don’t know when or how they got there. That’s exactly when you start feeling like life is happening to you.

So you go around in circles. You try hard to do things differently, yet you keep falling into the same trap! How do you break out of that vicious cycle?

By reprogramming your subconscious. Yes, it’s that obvious…

Neuroscience tells us there are two ways to do it. The first is hypnosis. It’s the gold standard, but it makes you dependent on someone else. The second is repetition. Yes, you read that right: repetition. Do something over and over, and sooner or later your subconscious is programmed to do it without thinking.

You can use this discovery on purpose. Install programs you’ve consciously chosen in your subconscious. Programs that support your goals and your personal success.

The gold standard is practice. But you can’t always rehearse something a hundred times before you pull it off. So you visualize! Once again, neuroscience shows that under certain conditions, you can convince your brain it’s really living what you’re picturing. That means you can practice a hundred times from your couch, eyes closed, and your brain will believe you gave it everything for real! Little by little, you’ll build new habits that always work in your favor. Goodbye, bad programming!

Now let’s take a few seconds to consider what this means for you as a leader.

Start by looking at the thoughts that fill your mind every day. Out of 60,000 thoughts a day, 90% are the same ones, and 85% are negative. Imagine the damage that does to your subconscious programming…

Now think about your teams. What messages do you repeat to them day in and day out? The same rule applies! Don’t be surprised if they never hit their targets when, without realizing it, you or the people around them are programming them to fall short!

Think about your parents and your teachers. Did they raise you on positive messages or negative ones? Hear often enough that you’re good for nothing, and you end up programmed to believe it! Then you spend your whole life working yourself to the bone to prove the world wrong! And to think a simple reprogramming could have wiped out all those years of conditioning!

The final keys to unleashing your full leadership potential

What if…

Whether you believe us or not, one thing is clear: this article didn’t leave you indifferent.

Our goal was to challenge your beliefs, so that one simple question could open your eyes to the opportunities lying dormant inside you.

“What if it’s true?”

Imagine all the possibilities that would open up! You’d be a completely different person! As you explore, you’ll discover that what you just read is only a tiny fraction of the extraordinary treasures waiting deep inside you.

5 secrets to visualizing:

1. USE ALL YOUR SENSES

Visualizing isn’t working for you? Try another sense. Listen to the scene, for example! Lean on your dominant senses and experience the moment through them. Sight isn’t everyone’s strongest sense.

2. SMALL SNAPSHOTS

There’s no need to visualize an entire scene, especially a long one. Pick the key moments and work on them one at a time.

3. FEEL IT IN 3D

Live it as if you were there! Put your whole heart into it. Feel every moment you picture, with every cell in your body full of life and emotion.

4. REPEAT

One visualization isn’t enough. Do it again. Twice, then a thousand times. Keep going until the outcome you want feels like a sure thing!

5. TAKE A MENTAL PICTURE

Nailed your visualization? Take a mental picture, feelings included. Come back to that picture during the day and let the feelings rise again. You don’t need to redo the whole visualization for that.
